Prescriptions
Looking to take a vacation from the high costs of US
pharmaceuticals! We can do renewals for your prescriptions while you
are here. In some cases you could save well over 50% on the cost of
prescribed medication.
We are seeing an increasing number of US patients like you
requesting extended prescription medication renewals in Ontario. We
are happy to help you within specific guidelines consistent with the
recommendations by the College of Physicians and Surgeons and the
Canadian Medical Protective Association. We want to inform you of
our practice guidelines so that we can serve you better.
Our medical responsibility to you, hence the standard of medical
care and documentation, will be the same regardless of your primary
address. We can not simply co-sign prescriptions without proper
evaluation of the patient, as this is prohibited by our College’s
professional practice guidelines.
Before renewing prescription medications for extended periods of
time we will assure that there is documentation of appropriate
management of your medical problems by a physician. This includes
appropriate visits and periodic pertinent lab data. Most patients,
at our request, will bring photocopies of their medical records from
their physician for the last six months or more including lab work
and other investigations for us to review with them. If
documentation of all health maintenance issues is satisfactory we
will renew your medications. For example, this documentation should
include periodic medical assessments, blood lipid levels and liver
function tests for lipid lowering agents, blood sugar levels and
glycosylated hemoglobin for diabetic medications, electrolytes and
kidney function tests for diuretics, etc. as appropriate based on
your medical history.
You need to bring us prescriptions from your US physician to confirm
what medications and dosage you are supposed to be taking. We will
renew medications for no more than 3 to 6 months at a time to assure
that you see a physician regularly for review of your medical care.
We will not renew narcotics and other controlled substances. There
is a standard fee for each medical visit at our clinic. There will
be an additional charge if any medical procedures are required. We
accept cash, travelers cheques, visa, MasterCard or Debit Card for
payment.
Our clinic is staffed with Emergency and Family Physicians who are
qualified and have practiced in both the United States and Canada.
