Your visit to Urgent Care Niagara is a “shot in the arm” for Africa.

Every time a patient visits an Urgent Care Niagara Clinic a portion of the fee paid by OHIP, to the clinic, is donated to support Health Care and Development work in Africa.

Here is a short video to show how UCN is involved in Africa and working with Initiative 360-Take it Global.

Each month, Urgent Care Niagara’s Medical Director, Dr. Artaj Singh and Tim Windsor, the Clinical Services Director, are busy making a long term investment in the lives of thousands of Africans. Late in 2009, they established a charity called Initiative 360 – Take it Global www.initiative360.org to help raise awareness and resources to extended their effectiveness in Africa. Their commitment has taken them to Mozambique and Zimbabwe multiple times since 2002.

To increase its effectiveness, Initiative 360 – Take it Global has formed a partnership with Africa 180, a Mozambiqian charity, for which, Dr. Artaj Singh, Dr. Judy Singh and Mr. Windsor serve as Board Members.

Africa 180‘s main areas of concern are community health and education. This involves a commitment to infant health care (almost 600 children) that keeps children in the context of their natural family structures. In reference to education, this involves a pre school program that focuses on inclusion of young girls in the initial process to enhance their participation in further education and ultimately in the future positively affecting their country. The educational component includes teaching adults new more effective agricultural methods to enhance their ability to provide for their communities and aid in their ability to be self reliant. The skills development program provides instruction for teenage boys and young men to develop wood working, metal fabrication and mechanic skills. A partnership with some local industries provides employment opportunities upon graduation.

Initiative 360 – Take it Global is providing leadership development training for over 50 Government and Civic leaders, including the Provincial Minister of Immigration and President of Gondola Region of Mozambique. These large group training seminars and departmental training sessions focus on leadership skills that enhance an elected or appointed official’s ability to manage resources and lead their populations to a more prosperous future. The former President of Mozambique, Armando Guebuza was quoted in a radio interview in July, 2009 “Africa’s greatest problem is not a lack of resources; it is a lack of leadership.” This philosophy is shared by the leaders of Africa 180 and Initiative 360 – Take it Global and therefore, a large portion of their resources are committed to long term leadership development for the benefit of the people.
